Baldur’s Gate’s slow 3-pointer assumes you’re indulging in some seriously delicious, irresistible soap.

The latest patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 was supposed to be released in closed beta yesterday, but Larian decided to give it more time in the oven due to bugs. Namely, a bug that caused passive scrolls – such as trap detection – to stop working.

Fortunately, if you haven’t signed up to participate in the beta, now you have more time to sign up. Scroll down a bit on the RPG’s Steam page and click the ‘Request Access’ button.

For one thing, they’ve taken the opportunity to write a blog post detailing the fun changes, like the fun rope soap. Wait. What. No. Soap is not for eating, says spoilsports Larian. Therefore, they have done more sanity than fool proof. “We noticed that some of you are coughing, so the act of washing yourself with soap and sponges is now called ‘Use’ instead of ‘Ask’.

Overall, patch 7 boasts “over 1,000 fixes and improvements,” the blog itself provides a few select details. The big ticket items here are bad ending movies, split screen tweaks, and modding tools. Apart from these, there are individual options. (I say ‘choose’ – my real choice would be for Larian to call it quits and go to the Milky Way and go to bed to start a new game.)

The Honor Mode system – a very difficult, single-save beef game – will now be selectable in normal play. In terms of specifics, the hobgobbo boss Dror Ragzlin will now try to befriend the denizens of the spider hole with a new voice called Arachnid Compulsion, if you can knock him out.

For your friends, Karlach “can’t wash the shaved side of his head anymore,” and Astarion can sometimes do something in the camp besides reading books. If you’re too busy being too bad to care about friendship, it’ll be more of a “Dark Urge reactivity” conversation with the narrator’s lines. But I was already playing the Dark Urge playthrough! I groan, before realizing that I haven’t made the Darkest Game Changer yet. Or A Dark Influence that specifically tries to make Minsc’s life as miserable as possible. Larian plz.

There is also more help for the final battle. I understand that anyone who is bored with the ‘deals you’ve made in your game, joins something weird later, but I’m not sure anyone has come up with a solution yet. best to give you money. on your side-trips in an efficient and satisfying way? I’m a fan, though. Now, the Kuo-Toa fish people can join in (unless they’re all dead at once), and the Gondi will drop a giant metal Herald.

There is optimization ahead of performance, too. “This will have a more noticeable effect in areas with a lot of NPCs (like the Undercity) and will reduce the high memory usage when you load a level for the first time,” read the blog. “It will also show up when you manage multiple items (for example, when you transfer everything from the camp box to the player inventory).”

Finally, and most bollocks-ly, you can no longer cheat on Shar’s Leap Of Faith test by “clicking on the last platform and letting your character find their way there.” Boooo. Boooooo. Boooooo (boo).

No word on when the patch will be available for everyone, but as mentioned, you can sign up for the beta on Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam page. I’m really hoping for Larian to take a break so I’ll end up playing the game again, but it’s definitely nice to see the game getting such updates, especially since they’re working on two more games right now.
